“I'm concerned about the refrigerator fitting in the space. It's 36" from one side of counter to other. My existing fridge measures 35" across. And fits perfectly w/ 1/8" room one one side. Can 36" fit without scrapping the counter.”

It should fit it will just be snug

This refrigerator will fit just fine inside a 36" opening and have the proper air clearances on the side.
