Hi - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your GE Refrigerator Model # GSS25GSHSS. We are happy to address your concern regarding the operating sounds. The new high efficiency compressor may run faster and longer than your old refrigerator and you may hear a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound while it is operating. You may hear the fans spinning at high speeds. This happens when the refrigerator is first plugged in, when the doors are opened frequently or when a large amount of food is added to the refrigerator or freezer. We suggest viewing "Normal Operating Conditions" on page 32 of the Use and Care Manual at the following link: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-60646-7.PDF - Also, for refrigerators and freezers to maintain proper temperature, the compressor will run much of the time. Newer refrigerators have compressors that are designed to run 80% to 90% of the time. This makes them more energy efficient because the greatest amount of energy is used when the compressor cycles on as opposed to when the compressor is actually running. Take a look at the following link- REFRIGERATOR NORMAL RUN TIME: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16932 - If your refrigerator is not operating as described, a qualified GE service technician is required for an accurate diagnosis. To schedule service online, visit us at GEAppliances.com or call 1.800.GE.CARES (800.432.2737). Please have your serial number and your model number available when calling for service. We're glad to have you in the family and hope this is helpful. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. We are always eager to help! Sue
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It works silently then all of sudden it turns to be a very loud motorcycle for 45 seconds. It breaks the silence and scares everyone.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has a cycle that it runs through and you will hear noises especially if it's making ice; but, it shouldn't be too loud. If it seems too loud, you may want to call the GE customer service and have a talk with them. Best of luck.
