Hi there, We are finding that this unit has an automatic defrost system called Frost Guard. To learn more about it, please click here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16699 - We are finding that the drawers do have tracks on which to slide on. Should you want to remove the drawers, take a look at pg. 13 of your Owner's Manual for steps on how to do so.
