Hello Carol - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. If installed properly, the shipping material removed, and the washer level, you should find this washer to be relatively quiet. Some normal operating noises include "Clicking" when the shifter mechanism is engaging or disengaging, back and forth swooshing, water flow sounds and flow changes, motor sounds while agitating or spinning, humming, gurgling and swishing.
