We've only owned this about a month. It replaced our very old-school (like 20+ years) very similar Whirlpool model, because its spin cycle had become very weak (especially with heavy, waterlogged items such as Levi's and bath towels). The GE is much higher-tech. It does not fill up with as much water as the old one. If you use the "Precise Fill" setting, it first weighs the size of the load, then only uses as much water as it deems necessary. Not sure about what you're experiencing with the rinse cycle, except to say that the "agitation" (both washing and rinsing) is much more gentle than with the old one. Spinning is the second half of the rinse cycle, maybe you just don't exactly notice when the rinsing agitation is happening? Our new machine removes much more water in the spin cycle than the old one, so now the drying cycle is completed far more quickly. As a result, I'm sure that we are using less electricity and natural gas overall than before. My only complaint is that the GE does not have a "buzz" alert at the end of the drying cycle, like the Whirlpool had.
