Unit can be purchased gas or electric. You have to have the correct outlet for electric and the unit will be cheaper. Barrels as in drum size are very large, can hold lots of clothing

It’s a gas unit but like any other washer and dryer that needs power for lights and motors you do plug into a power source. If getting This specific one the barrels are huge definitely big loads.

The unit has a gas dryer, the barrels in this model are large, (larger than our old Maytag unit). 
My wife is pleased to be able to wash and dry a queen comforter or bedspread or a load of towels 
with no problems....
