Hello cat - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. If you hear a sloshing sound when you move the inner tub in a newer GE washer, that is the balance ring. This is an enclosed plastic container partially filled with a salt water solution, it is attached to the inner clothes basket, and allows the basket to spin smoothly should an out of balance situation occur.
