The black surface has a matte finish, like a spray powder coat. It has not yet scratched, in spite of heavy pots and pans, so i suspect it is a durable baked-on finish. I expect it will have the durability of a non-stick pan finish. At least it feels like that. I am not going to try to scratch the finish to find out.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I’m very hard on all my appliances- so far I have not Noticed any actual scrapes on the black grate. The main black metal Is fairly shiny. The porcelain caps over the gas are actually more like gray not black. Over all I love it, probably because the one I replaced was so old. Super Dirty in the third photo but you can kind of see the gray tone when the light is shining straight down.
