I'm not sure about the effectiveness with a 1300 sq ft basement. My basement is about 650 sq ft (24'x30') and it seems to just keep up. Also my basement is one half concrete with the other half being bare dirt. The unit will turn off when it meets the humidity level you set. The filter is washable and easy to detach to clean.
