Run a cycle through empty but use bleach or baking soda. There are also cleaners you can buy from Amazon that are for washing machines that help take away any mustiness. Also, wiping out the top of the drum can help, too.

Washer odors (like mildew) are usually caused by leaving the washer lid closed when the washer is not in use. This does not allow air to circulate and dry out the moisture remaining in the tub area. The air and moisture mixture becomes stagnant and creates an odor. When the washer is not in use, leaving the lid up/open for air circulation will help prevent odor. To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug this appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning. We recommend using Tide Washing Machine Cleaner and follow the directions on the package. You may also try the following: Set the washer to fill with hot water and select the longest wash cycle. Add a 3/4 cup of a water softening additive which can usually be found in the laundry detergent aisle in most stores (baking soda or vinegar can be substituted). Allow the washer to complete an entire wash and rinse cycle. If an odor lingers, repeat the entire process. Odors may come from the drain hose if it is pushed too far down into the drain stand pipe. It can siphon drained water back into the washer causing a musty odor. We recommend clipping the hose to the side of the stand pipe so this does not occur. By clipping to the side of the stand pipe, the hose will not need to be pushed in so far. We hope this is helpful! If you have any additional questions, please let us know. We are here to help!
