• Hi Val - While the washer is not labeled HE, GE Appliances recommends HE (High Efficiency) detergent be used in all of our washers (past and present models) for optimum wash performance. HE detergent works best with the lower water levels used in all modern washing machines and cleans just as well as standard detergents regardless of the machine type or age. Thanks for choosing GE! • It doesn't have the high efficiency logo, most do. But, I'm thinking it is because it has a precise water fill line and recommends the HE soap for it. I also know my electric bills and water bills have not went up, and we do alot of washing. I will say, this is the best washer I've ever owned in 20 years! My 10 yr old can even operate it. It fits so much, as it is wider rather than deep.
