• Yes you can.. just hold the Start/Pause button for a count of 3 seconds as indicated on the machine...ALL lights will go out and no more actions will take place!

• Hello Maureenb - Congratulations on the new washer. We are happy to help. When the washer is not in use, the lid can be kept closed.
