Just measured my stove - looks like the top (upon which the black pieces sit) comes to approximately 36.5".  Puts it just about even with our countertops.

Yes, it does include the backsplash. The height from the floor to the top of the cooking surface is approximately 36 1/4" (+/- 1/4").  -Vikki@GEAppliances
