Hello - We appreciate your interest in this beautiful range and we are happy to help! The cooktop is Porcelain-Enamel. It does not stain when food or hot water makes contact with it. It is real enamel paint. You can clean it with a soft dish cloth and mild detergent. Don't use any abrasive cleaners to prevent it from scratching. Thanks for checking. Olga@GEA
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have owned this model for approximately 5 months and use the cooktop daily. In that time, the grating over the right and left side burners has not stained chipped or peeled. It is as black as the day I purchased it. I have hand washed it several times with a dish cloth. I have not used any abrasive products thus far. The griddle located in the middle of the cooktop is made from aluminum with a teflon coating. I have not used it much, but I expect it will last a good long time if I do not use metal spatulas and abrasive cleaners.
