It is both. It is made of SCHOTT CERAN®, a trademarked material developed in Germany to combine the aesthetics of glass with the resilience of ceramic. It is designed to be thinner yet stronger, to offer both efficient heat transfer and impact resistance. HOWEVER, like almost all glass cooktops, it needs to be wiped down after use (after the cooktop has cooled) because food splatters can increase the risk of marring the surface. It's very particular about the pan bottoms, and if you're the type of cook that slides or drags a pan across a burner, you'll definitely leave scratches. We narrowed pan brands down to NordicWare, ScanPan, and "Made In" to make it happy and to avoid PFAS. We are being super careful with pans till we get more used to this range. Love the oven, though! We use it a lot, both regular baking and convection oven and airfrying.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The cooktop on this range is black ceramic glass. The recommend cookware is stainless steel, aluminum, copper bottom, and enamel (painted) on cast iron. See pages 15-16 of the owner's manual for more information on cookware here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--nPIDI4UD--/595e87020abcf6a1d7dad92c5ec8dfdbaf3c0c85.pdf
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The cooktop is glass but I use a ceramic cleaner on it that works great. I use stainless pots and pans and have had no problem.
