“There is not a code in our area for how high above the range our microwave with vents is to be installed. It says to check with the manufacturer. What is the recommended distance between the range and our microwave?”

Hi Shisha - Thanks for choosing GE and welcome to the family! GE over-the- range microwaves must be installed 66" from the floor to the bottom of the cabinet that the microwave attaches to. This can also be measured as 30" from the cooktop to the bottom of the cabinet it attaches to. We suggest viewing the Installation Guide included with the microwave for specifications.
