“I have been using this unit for 1 month. It is installed properly, tilted backward as instructed, and under a window awning so it is untouched by rain. It has now developed a mildew smell that is distributed into the house whenever the unit is on. Why?”

Hi Zach - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your air conditioner. We are sorry to hear of the mildew smell and can certainly understand your concern. A properly working unit by itself does not usually produce any form of odor. Smells generally come from a dirty unit or is something that is recycled from the room itself. The constant warming and cooling on these machines can build up moisture quickly. If it doesn't evaporate or drain properly, the stagnant water can lead to fungi, molds, and mildews and cause a musty odor. Make sure the rear grille is not restricted since the unit must have proper air flow. It is very important not to have anything blocking the grille on the room air conditioner, like furniture, drapes, plants, etc. A dirty air filter will restrict air flow. Make sure the air filter has been cleaned in the last 30 days. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had that happen with another brand - ran it on ECO when the weather was extra humid. If you bought it from Best Buy with warranty, you should be able to return it because you don't like the smell.
