Hello. That is very nice of you to get this for her on Mother's Day. The remote control has some markings on the part you hold. You may need to add something on the remote to help her know which push button does what. If being visually impaired then someone will need to set the temperature setting as she may not be able to read on front of AC unit. This 12000 BTU model is for a room size of 450 - 550 sq ft. No knobs or anything to turn. The controls on the unit itself are touch sensitive, but she would need to be able to read the appropriate labels.
