Hi ChateauBlanc- We are sorry to hear of this unusual issue with the door opening mechanism on your GE model PEM31SM3SS. You should not expect this with the new model PEM31SFSS. We do not offer an alternate model with the same dimensions. Keep in touch! SUE@GEA
