• I have found it sufficient to cook by (on the high setting). The low setting might be a little dim for that -- the dim setting seems more like a night light for the kitchen.

• Hello, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help. Yes, the Surface Light under the microwave is bright enough to provide lighting for the stove top below. It is a 120 volt, 40 watt (max.) halogen bulb. To operate, press the Surface Light pad once for bright light, twice for the night light or a third time to turn the light off. Thank you for checking.
