It runs on and off to keep the bacteria and odors away while dishwasher is not running. You can turn it off by pressing the Ultra Fresh button. I find it helpful and annoying at times. :) UltraFresh System Smart dishwasher algorithms introduce clean air and reduce moisture, refreshing the wash system to help prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Interior filters are treated with Microban antimicrobial technology

This very efficient fan may run for an additional 90 minutes after the cycle is complete to maximize drying performance.
