Q: QuestionDoes the cooktop require a certain type of pots and pan for use?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, as do almost all Induction cooktops that require magnetizable bottom. You can check your vessels bottom with a piece of magnet to test if this will work for induction cooktops. Non magnetizable metals don't work.

Q: Questionwe have this cooktop now and it has been great until now. We tried to turn it on today and for a couple of seconds it appears ok but then it shuts down. Can you give me a any ideas about what might be wrong. Who repairs this appliance in zip 45005. Thanks
Asked by Phil.
- A:Answer I would first make sure if you are indeed using a suitable vessel appropriate for use, meant for induction cooktops. In case you were not aware, non magnetizable metals vessel bottoms don't work with this type of cooktops. If this indeed a correct metal type that was tested with a small piece of magnet, then I would call GE appliance customer support to proceed further either for repair or diagnose the problem.

Q: QuestionWill this cooktop maintain a steady heat over a prolonged period of time without shutting itself off? i.e. pressure canning can need 90 minutes or more of cook time.
Asked by mcdeb.
- A:Answer Hi mcdeb - Thanks for viewing GE! A pressure cooker can be used on an induction cooktop. You can also do canning as well with a flat-bottomed canner. Cooktop manufacturers have made pressure cookers or canners to operate on induction cooktops. It is best to check with gourmet shops for recommendations. Try the magnet test (a magnet must stick and hold to the bottom of the pan) on any pressure cooker or canner in question. It is also preferable to size the cooker or canner to the size of the burner. Also, we suggest viewing the following link- BRAND NAMES OF COOKWARE COMPATIBLE WITH INDUCTION COOKTOPS: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=16895 - If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask, we are also happy to help at GEAppliances.com! Q: QuestionHas any body have problems with the cooktop shutting off quickly when turning it on for heat?
Asked by Mac.
This question was asked about the related product: GE Profile - 30" Built-In Electric Induction Cooktop - Stainless Steel on Black
- A:Answer Hello Mac, Thanks so much for reaching out. We're terribly sorry to hear that your cooktop is shutting off quickly. We understand how frustrating that can be. If the burner/module is not heating properly or not turning ON and OFF correctly, it is possible the burner is cycling ON and OFF to maintain temperature. It is normal operation for the burner to cycle ON and OFF to maintain the selected temperature. If the burner were to stay ON during the entire cooking time, the heat output would be greater than the set temperature. The burner will turn ON to heat up and then turn OFF to cool back to the selected temperature. Once it cools below the set temperature, the burner will turn ON to heat back up again. If this does not help resolve the issue, we recommend scheduling service. You can schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-432-2737. All the best. Mike@GEA
