Minerals from your water can build up in the Opal over time, which would then need to be cleaned. We recommend using distilled water in your Opal; even bottled water can have high mineral content. Regarding RO water versus distilled, both systems are highly effective filtration systems using two different methods. Distillation is the process of separating water from the organic and inorganic contaminants through a combination of evaporation (boiling), cooling and condensation. -- Reverse Osmosis removes contaminants from water by using pressure to force the water through a semipermeable membrane.
