BUYER BEWARE! BUYER BEWARE We received our SECOND unit as a Xmas present from our adult children. The first unit lasted less than 2 years before it stopped working completely after it caught on fire. The second unit which is 3 months old has already stopped working. It constantly says add water. We have the external water reservoir which is always full when this happens. It has a reminder light that tells you when to sanitize the unit. It comes on every TWO days with our unit. This entails adding bleach to the water supply and then flushing it three additional times. Roughly taking 30 minutes of your time every other day.A little much for an appliance that cost over $400. I attempted to contact GE directly about my concerns only to be met with an attitude of it. Your fault for not doing something right. These people are unbelievable. Please take this a warning seriously. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK. THE COMPANY DOESN’T CARE AFTER YOU BUY THE PRODUCT. I PROCEED A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THESE PEOPLE.

Please try again later.I just posted a review of the Opal 2.0 after 1.5 yrs of running great…we took it apart completely to find ALL the tubes filled with rock hard calcium and algae. We have routinely cleaned the ice maker for over 3 yrs, we suspected something was amiss by googling and found some you tube videos of the cleaning you must do, which is never mentioned by GE ever. There was half an inch of mush green algae in the internal water tank that took hours to clean by soaking and scrubbing as the calcium had hardened in all the outgoing spouts of the tank. Pretty gross. Our extended warranty ran out about 3 weeks ago. We will never get another one, we will go with a cheaper unit once this dies. Posted two pics, the water tank which GE never mentioned would happen and the internal tubes filled by solid calcium rock hard substance not mentioned either. It drips water out, yes it still made ice! We started digging into the problem because we had to do GE recommended cleaning - EACH week, instead of 1-2 months. It continued to spew calcium at such a rate it covered all the seams inside and out of the unit. The in depth cleaning all over you tube, but not GE.

Try the following troubleshooting tips to resolve this issue. In the upper left corner on the front of the Opal you will see Making Ice when it is going into (or already in) that mode. Allow the unit some time to start producing more ice. If Add Water is highlighted, your unit needs more water before it can cycle to make ice. If you see Cleaning or Defrosting on the front, the unit is in the cleaning or defrosting mode and will not produce ice. If the unit continues to not make ice: Check that the ice bin is pushed all the way in place. Try to reset the Ice Maker by unplugging the unit for 3-4 hours. If the unit still won't make ice, contact Opal Support at 1-866-907-6718, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, EST. Hope this helps. Mike@GEA
