It is recommended that there be at least 4” of clearance in the back, on both sides, and above the Opal to allow proper air flow so that the fan can move air about the unit.

The manual and GE brand filters list the change interval at every 3 months. However, it also depends entirely on the brand of filter and type of water being used. Some of the cheaper filters on Amazon don't last very long. I've had one that has a relatively good rating last barely over a week. If you use distilled water, then the period between changing the filter could also be pushed out even further.

Only had mine for less than a month and already had to replace the filter because the original filter would not allow enough flow to operate the machine.
