Hey there and thanks for this excellent question. Microwaves should be installed in a 12”-13” deep cabinet, but the Bump Out Kit is available if you have a cabinet deeper than that. The kit is needed to bump the microwave forward 3” so that it aligns properly. Please let us know if we can answer any additional questions. -Gina@GEA
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.My guess, and I emphasize guess, is that the microwave would probably be recessed slightly if mounted under a 15" upper (cabinet). It only sticks out a couple, maybe 3 inches on a 12" upper. The special bracket may be a spacer of sorts to bring the microwave out a bit. I really don't know but couldn't resist the urge to guess. Now I am gonna go Googlin!
