You can build this unit into any cabinet, upper or lower, so long as you have the proper size opening. As far as venting goes, the unit actually vents out the front, through the trim kit. My old unit had vent slats on the trim surround whereas my new stainless-steel trim has no vents on the face, which looks great, but has stand offs in the corners which creates a gap on all four sides of the unit. The top and bottom gap is barely noticeable, but the left and right gap is very noticeable.
