Hello - You're not required to download the SmartHQ app in order to use the Combo; however, we do recommend that you download it to ensure that your unit stays up to date with the latest software. With that app, you can even turn the unit on and off if you're away!. Please let us know if you have additional questions. Best regards. -Don@GEA

The only thing that is really useful is to download extra settings so most washer or dryer units come with settings like towels, delicates, normal, etc well to get a more accurate cycle you’d want to download a more fitting setting but you can 100% do your laundry without it. But the jeans cycle would be useful but unnecessary as you could pick a preloaded cycle. I myself still haven’t downloaded any new cycles and have had no issue. On the app you can also schedule maintenance if you have any trouble. The app if you set it too you can have it remind you to fill the dispensers, give you a 5 minute countdown till your closes are done, give you a notification when the clothes are done, and will tell you how long you have on both your wash and dry cycle.
