“does this also heat the water so it could run with a connection to cold water only? that would be great and would be a next model that GE should develop. I would see some energy savings in only heating the water needed for the washing.”

Hello- We appreciate your interest and suggestions! The Ultrafast Combo can be used with only the cold water hose connected. This model does not have a heater to heat incoming water; the incoming water temperature is dependent on the water in your home. So if you only have the unit connected to a cold water source, you will only be able to get a cold water wash. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Heating it's own water would destroy it's energy efficiency, unless the heat pump was also used for water heating. Making the heat pump work for both air drying and water heating would likely increase the cost of the unit, and it's already on the expensive side. Many of us heat water with gas, which will be lower cost than any electric method to heat water. My old gas dryer heated with gas, so this heat pump washer-dryer is a large improvement in reducing greenhouse gases.
