  • QuestionUnsanitary water smellWater is heard in the machine long after the wash. Old water smell is coming from inside as though all the water did not drain off and that only started happening within the last two months. I have left the lid open but no difference. Is there a way to drain off that old water please.

    Asked by Helen.

    • Answer Hi Helen-this is Sue from GE Appliances. If you hear a sloshing sound when you move the inner tub in your washer, that is the balance ring. The balance ring is an enclosed plastic container that is partially filled with a salt water solution. The two halves of the balance ring are welded together to form a permanent seal. It is attached to the inner clothes basket and allows the basket to spin smoothly if an uneven load creates an out-of-balance situation. This will not cause an odor. To get rid of odors inside of the washer, fill the washer with hot water; set at regular speed and the longest wash cycle. Add 3/4 cup of a water softening additive which can be found in the laundry detergent aisle (baking soda or vinegar can be substituted). Allow washer to complete entire wash and rinse cycle. If odor lingers, repeat entire process. You may also try Tide Washing Machine Cleaner or similar product and follow the directions on the package. We hope this is helpful. • QuestionWhat is the time on the wash cycles? Can I adjust the length of any of the wash cycles on the GE stacked laundry center?

    Asked by Lorielp.

    • Answer Hi Lorielp- The wash cycle controls the length and intensity of the washing process. The approximate cycle times are as follows (The cycle run times do not include the time it takes to fill or drain the washer): Cottons 19-34 minutes, Perm Press/Easy Care 13-22 minutes, Delicates 11-14 minutes, Quick Rinse/Rinse & Spin 7 minutes, Spin 8 minutes. Add 3.5 minutes for Fabric Softener Option (Deep Rinse). You can adjust the time by choosing Heavy, Normal, Light (soil). We suggest to view page 7 of the Owner's Manual for descriptions of the washer cycles: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-90532.pdf - Thanks for choosing GE. • QuestionHow many gallons of water does it use for a full size wash?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hello - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. To obtain the average water usage of our washers, it is necessary to look at the water factor (WF or iWF). The iWF is a calculation defined by the Department of Energy (DOE) and all manufacturers are required to publish this information. For Average Water Usage, calculate: Water Factor x Capacity = Average Water Usage. For this model, it would be 7.0 x 3.2 = 22.4 gallons. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

  • QuestionCan things be set or stored on top of this unit safely without concern of blocking any kind of venting or getting hot? Top of unit has a raised center? I would like to store luggage on top but do not want to block or cause anything to heat up...etc.

    Asked by cabin.

    • Answer Hi cabin- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Thanks for considering our GE UNITIZED SPACEMAKER® 3.2 DOE CU. FT. WASHER AND 5.9 CU. FT. ELECTRIC DRYER GUD27ESSJWW! It not recommended to use the top of the dryer for storage. Do not store items that may burn or melt (such as clothing, paper material, plastics or plastic containers, etc.) on top of the appliance nor hang them from the door. Do not store combustible materials, gasoline or other flammable liquids near the dryer. Keep dryer area clear and free from items that would obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air. • QuestionI just bought a condo and it has the ge stackable washer and dryer. No matter how high I fill the washer dryer, the water level stays around 6 inches. Can this be fixed?

    Asked by 1709condo.

    • Answer Hi 1709condo- When Auto Load Sensing is selected, the washer automatically provides the correct amount of water suited to the size and type of load placed in the unit. You can also manually choose the load size: Small, Med, Large, Ex Large. See page 5 of the Owner's Manual at the following link to view water levels: http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-90532.pdf - Low water levels can be caused by low water pressure or obstructed screens in the fill hoses / water inlet valve. The water pressure at the water inlet should be at least 20 psi. • QuestionWhat are the minimum, all around, outside clearance dimensions? Also, NONE of the link addresses provided in any of the 50 answers are good. Cut-and-paste all take you to a blank page, with a dialog box that says, "No Photo Available.'

    Asked by Stumpy.

    • Answer Hi Stumpy- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Thanks for considering our GE UNITIZED SPACEMAKER® 3.2 DOE CU. FT. WASHER AND 5.9 CU. FT. ELECTRIC DRYER GUD27ESSJWW! The approximate product dimensions are as follows: (WxHxD) (in.) 26 4/5 in x 75 1/2 in x 30 17/20 in. Minimum clearances between dryer cabinet and adjacent walls or other surfaces are: 0" either side and rear, 1" front and top. Minimum vertical space from floor to overhead cabinets, ceilings, etc. is 76-1/2." the dryer is deeper in the rear than the washer. The overhang is 4" past the back panel of the washer, which means it sticks out past the vent, electrical, and plumbing connections. The dryer can sit up against a wall without adding any extra depth to the unit. This provides space for the connections in the rear. Because of this overhang, the unit does not need knockouts to vent to the left or right side. The vent elbow can be turned left, right, or down as needed.
