• Both should be, the old generation only works with phones that have the 2.0 charging port, and the new generation has the option for both 2.0, and 3.0, and since they are the same price you should go with the new one.

• None at all. It does not support the Oculus software needed for the Gear VR. You can upgrade to the Note 4 and look for the Innovator Gear VR, which Samsung has discontinued but good luck finding one.
