Thank you for reaching out to us with your question, Bob. This Gear VR is powered off the device that is plugged into it, in other words your smart phone! That's what the USB is for. I hope that helped to answer your question! ^Viv
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The headset is simply a mounting device for your phone with adjustable lenses to enhance the VR experience. The plug you saw, I assume, is the micro USB plug that inserts into the port on your phone to allow the controls on the headset to work or possibly the port through which you can charge your phone while using the headset. Not sure about the LEDs you mention. There are some brightly colored spots inside the face that I'm not sure of their purpose but you only need external power if charging your phone battery. The Gear VR doesn't require batteries or an electrical supply.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does not use power. Honestly I've never noticed the LED's, but you can plug it up to charge the attached phone. 3D graphics will burn your battery quick.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The unit does not use power. It uses your phones power only. The LED's are for different sized phones.
