These watches will not connect without being attached and close to a phone. I was in your exact same shoes. I dont want my child to have a phone neither so i got 2 free samsung galaxy 8 watches through tmobile and added a line so he can have a watch and his own number while he is at achool and to use for emergencies all while it has all the fitbit capbility incuding talk text and calls and parental control accessthat you can monitor from your phone and can change setting and you can attach the numbers that are allowed for him to have and no need to have a phone only a line and a watch. Its the best. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Thanks for the inquiry. To set up and use the Versa 4, a compatible smartphone is required to sync data and manage features. Because the Versa 4 does not have built-in cellular connectivity, it cannot be used for calling, texting, or location tracking independently of a phone. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The fitbit versa is supposed to have smartphone connection. I don't suggest getting it if you don't want your kid to have a smartphone. Unless you have a smartphone yourself you can connect it to that, but the fitbit versa doesn't have tracking capabilities that I am aware of
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I believe you need a smartphone to set it up and update it, but once that is done, I don't think the phone is needed to see the steps, heart rate, etc. I haven't really checked but am pretty sure.
