Prior to the installation of my floodlight camera, I purchased a WiFi smart light switch from my local hardware store and set it to turn off at sunrise and on at sunset. The battery in the camera itself is easily strong enough to work throughout the day while the switch isn’t on. I’ve used it this way for over a month so far with no issues whatsoever.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You would need to leave the switch in the ON position. The light will be off until it encounters motion. I ended up wiring this out to an outlet to not have to worry about that.

Nest Cam can accommodate up to 10 days of continuous video recording and 24/7 video history (with Nest Aware Plus) if your camera is hardwired to power, like your floodlight. If you’d like, you can use the Home app to customize your Nest Floodlight settings, please see this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10500343
