You will need to install a junction box in order to properly mount this and have a provision and room to run a typical outdoor power cord with a plug on the end to connect to your outlet vs. having to hardwire.

The Nest Cam with Floodlight is designed to replace an existing floodlight and requires a connection to your home’s power that provides 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz. For new installations, it may require additional hardware. You can contact a pro if you want to install the floodlight in an area that doesn’t have an existing power connection, and/or if you need a junction box installed.
