Otherwise, you get a paltry 3 hour review block of recordings; meaning if you want to see what triggered the motion alert on your phone at 2am and it's 6am, it will disappear. Better units are available that include subscription free service and operate in a similar fashion.

Only if you want the camera to record and have access to those recordings. I had it set up without the fee for more than a year but found it necessary due to my neighborhood. I wanted to be able to see more than a simple snapshot.
