I have an old thermostat. Can I replace it with the new one or does this require an electrician? null

It's very simple to replace just look at the letter and color of wire as you disconnect the old thermostat and put it in the same place on the new one

The instructions provided made installation from our old mercury dial Honeywell thermostat simple. I installed 1 my girlfriend did the other in about 15minutes.

The Nest website will let you know if the thermostat is compatible with your existing wiring by simply identifying which colors are landed for your existing thermostat. If it's compatible I don't think an electrician would be needed. It's a very simple install.

You can easily replace your old with the new. The instructions provided are very good. Online they even have a Q&A about your current wiring that will provide you a graphic of how your wiring should go on to the new Nest.
Best advise is to take a picture of your current wire set up. It will help you answer the questions in the installation process without having to rely on your memory. Another good reason is if you want to change back to your old system for any reason, (ie moving and taking to your new home)

I had an old one myself and I was able to do it. If you look up an installation video on YouTube it'll take you through the process step by step in installation and one will tell you what it's not compatible with.

It's easy to install. Shut off power to the a/c and thermostat, unwire old thermostat and follow wiring guide. The wiring was so simple, they give you a beautiful guide color coded. They also include a screw driver and a wall plate to cover up old paint marks and holes. Programming the wifi, name and time was easy. Figuring out a 24 hour schedule for me, took a little practice.

If you don't have a common wire from the furnace to the thermostat (like me) you will probably need an electrician. Watch out for customer support dragging their feet and intentionally delaying reimbursement for this work.

No, you don't need an electrician. As long as you've made sure your heating and cooling system are compatible, you're good to go. It's really just plug and play. Refer to Nest's website for installation instructions and the compatibility check. Hope that helps!

Yes and no. Nest customer service had me take a picture of the wires in the wall and instructed me what to do. Very easy, just don't forget to turn off the breaker.
