I haven't tested this but if router goes down, it should not affect furnace. You just won't be able to control the thermostat remotely.

It will maintain the last temperature set, and until your router is back online you'll have to set the temperature manually on the thermostat. The WiFi connection is only for using the remote function via Alexa, Google Home, or through the Nest app. Therefore loss of signal will not impair the use of the furnace at all.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If your router were to go down, the Nest Thermostat would basically act like a basic thermostat. You wouldn't be able to control the Nest Thermostat from the Nest app, but the Nest would still follow any set schedule you have and would not shut off the furnace.
