Yes I had the same problem my old thermostat had to be manually switched between cooling and heating witch is impossible when your away. The Nest 3rd generation will switch itself between cooling or heating as is needed. As far as season changes the Nest learns from how you set it and eventually will learn from you what the temperature should be at any given time. You can also set eco temps for turning on heat at a certain temp say 45 or cooling (AC) at say 80 if you should need to leave for vacation or whatever. This keeps your home in a safe temperature range to protect the interior of your home. The nest will notify you of any problems or changes via your cell phone and you can control all functions from any where with your cell phone.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has a heat and cool option. And you set the temps for both and it will keep the temperature within the range you set it to. It works really well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.First you should verify with Nest if your heating and cooling system is compatible. They have an online tool for this. Most systems are compatible. To control the thermostat on a day when you need both heating and cooling there is a dual climate setting. We use that now at this time of year when the temperature fluctuates a lot in the Midwest. The dual setting lets you put a heating temperature and a cooling temperature setting at the same time. Works great. There is a difference of about 3-4 degrees on the settings. We set ours at like 69-73. Heater kicks on below 69 and air conditioning kicks on above 73.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Check the wiring you have take a picture. Nest 3 needs connections for heat, cool, fan and power. NEST 3 learns the temperature you like by watching your manual changes to outside temperatures by monitoring your weather in your zip code.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your existing thermostat is just a simple one. If you open it up and see that yoru wiring actually has 4-5 more wires that just aren't connected, then your system should work with a Nest.
