It's supposed to, but there's no good way to test it. The testing functionality that comes with the app does not push an alert to your phone. Having to have an actual fire to find out if it works doesn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, definitely, if you use the NEST app on your phone. It won't call the fire department for you automatically the way a security system would, but it lets you kn ow there's smoke or fire as long as you have your phone with you.

Make sure your phone has internet access and notifications are enabled in the Nest app. Your Nest Protect needs Wi-Fi connection to send alerts and notifications as well.
