“I want to switch from a honeywell wifi thermostat to the nest E. Question is when there is a lost connection to the router from say a power outage or surge will the thermostat regain its connection by itself or does it or the router need to be rebooted.”

Mine has always reconnected with no problem.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.As long as you've saved your Wi-Fi settings in the Nest it will reconnect automatically to Wi-Fi when the Wi-Fi router powers back on. The Nest has a built in battery and stays on for some time when the power goes out.
