• They are all the exact same. Any one can be the "main" router, rest act as points.

• they can be either a router or access point. You can connect any one of them to your modem. That becomes the router. The other two will then become a "wireless access point." Costco has a 4 pack that is only $50 more.

• All three have Ethernet ports and can act as a router, however in a mesh you only need one to do so. If you are considering using all three as independent routers that could potentially work given the right configuration.
