“I bought a Pixel 4 XL and a case, as my Pixel 3A is too miniscule. I was flabbergasted to open the box from Best buy today of the Pixel 4 XL! It's the same size as my Pixel 3A and the case for the Pixel 4 XL is much larger than the phone. Why?”

All I can say is you probably got a regular Pixel 4. You can go to the settings on the phone, and scroll down to ' About Phone' where it would clearly state either Pixel 4 or Pixel 4XL. Did you purchase it refurbished? Either way I recommend contacting Best Buy.
