They like to lock you in for 36 months on their plans. You may be able to get away with 24mo plan

They finance the full retail price ($499 in Verizon's store) and credit back the monthly discount with each bill. If you upgrade the phone or discontinue service you have to pay the balance of their retail price with no future monthly discounts available to apply. Best Buy has the Pixel 6a on sale right now for $299 with immediate activation if you can come up with the money up front.
