• I bought a new one, the box came sealed, and it works with any sim card, actually Im not from the US so I needed an unlocked one to work with a sim card from costa rica

• Brand new and unlocked means you can add your network's SIM card, yes. However, the often steep sale price they offer means you need to activate it at the time of purchase, which means they will ask you what network you are on so they can send you a new SIM card.
