You are ABSOLUTELY correct in your assessment. The only reason you would want to go to the i7 or 16GB is if you want to run Windows10 or Linux. As a Chromebook, the base model at $999 is OVERKILL for ChromeOS.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.absolutley no need for an I7, i have the I5 and it is blazing fast! even no need to get a bigger SSD. the Pixelbook comes with 100GB of free storage for 2 years on Google Drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Where for 90% of the users an the i5 is MORE than enough, there are starting to be some photo editing applications being released for Chrome... LIke the included Adobe LightRoom app, or the Polar app, and I see there are now video editors for Chromebooks.. If you're doing these extremely CPU intensive applications, an i7 with 16GB and 512GB SSD might be usefull. But again, 95% of the people would be completely thrilled with even the based (i5/8GB/128GB) version.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You'll probably get more mileage on the i7 with 16GB of RAM compared to an i5 with 8GB, but I doubt most people would hold onto their Pixelbook long enough to really see a difference since an i5 with 8GB of RAM is already overkill.
