This is not a range extender. It is a mesh Network that just switches on its own from one device to another.

This device is a router by itself and will create a "mesh" network which means that it will take the network from the first google wifi (if you buy more than one) and use the same network to interconnect to the rest of the wifi devices, giving you better signal for your entire house.
