Yes, you can place each unit in separate houses. Basically, each hub can operate independently of one another, so essentially when you purchase this system you are purchasing three identical routers.

So depending on your situation you will need to configure the system differently.
~If the two buildings are beyond the reach of the wifi signal you will need to connect each unit to its own broadband modem or link them via an ethernet cable, which may not be practical. 
~If the buildings are close enough for the WiFI signal to reach, then you can configure the system as normal.
~If you plan on purchasing two units for your home and then give one to a friend, then each of you will set up your respective units independently.

Yes you could use all of them separately or use them with each other. They are 3 of the same unit. You just set them up how you want.

Yes and no - If they are within 1500 feet then yes, if not then they would not be able to mesh together. Depending on walls and trees, things like that, it may not connect at 1500 feet.

The houses would have to be exceptionally close for that to work. So for practical purposes, probably not.

Technically yes, but the more distance, and obstacle that you have between the two houses the single will become weaker and have slower speed. But if the two houses are not too far, I can see this works just fine.
