The AC1200 will plug into your home modem that you should get from your provider when you get their 5g home service.

Many new devices run using 5G while others use 2.4G (example my old HP printer and my Garage Door opener) and they both connected using the Google WiFi. The connection is seamless and works every time. Some other routers who are 5G and 2.4G are not seamless meaning you have to fine cy tour computer to a 2.4 GHz network to use your 2.4 GHz printer. I had that problem in the past. The Google WiFi is your router. You will need a 5G modem to conver your signal and connect your Google WiFi to your modem. The app for Google WiFi is very easy to use.
