• No, I thought the same thing before I bought one! It can also be used for viewing in photo mode and video mode (like a view finder).

• No, the screen also shows you live what you are photographing or filming, you can also set the sleep time that the screen will go to sleep to save power.

• Yes, the screen can be used as a viewfinder and show what the camera is recording. I recommend turning the screen off once you verify you have your object in focus as it will quickly drain battery if left on throughout recording.
